Memorial Day

Memorial Day

Summer in the city tends to kick off Memorial Day weekend, which is the traditional start of BBQ season, the weekend when Chicago officially re-opens its beaches, and the weekend when the city allows Lake Shore Drive to be opened up for bicycles. May expands your options for activity, and also your opportunities to take some interesting photos. For example, you might be interested in checking out the Kids and Kites Festival at Montrose Harbor this coming weekend (May 7) to capture some great shots of a colorfully decorated sky.

The Magellan Half-Marathon

Each year, PERL Mortgage proudly sponsors Magellan Development Group’s Chicago Spring Half-Marathon and 10k, an event to help raise funds for a worthy cause. On Sunday, May 15, participants will be running to help the Northwestern Brain Tumor Institute, a comprehensive, state-of-the-art medical research and care facility, fighting the fight against the brain tumors that afflict nearly 20,000 Americans per year.

Runners can choose between either a half-marathon (13.1 miles) or a 10k (6.2 miles), and even the kids can join in the event with the “Junior Dash.” All participants will receive custom-made T-shirts and finisher medals, in addition to the feeling of accomplishment and the satisfaction of helping a noble cause. If you’re interested, you can register online. I will be running the half-marathon this year. Please say hello if you see me at the race.
