How Am I Doing?

I have long been a critic of critics. Restaurant reviews amuse me, because the reviewer often tries to tell me what I should eat without knowing what kind of food I would actually like. Have you ever read someone rave about something you know you would hate? The same goes for movie reviews: If you hate romantic comedies in general, will a glowing review of the latest break-up-get-back-together movie make you want to see it?

I’ve noticed lately that either businesses are suddenly more self-conscious or consumers have been relying more heavily on the opinions of others. My inbox has of late been bombarded with surveys from insistent merchants asking me to rate and review their products. Don’t get me wrong, I read reviews, but I only place real value on two kinds: the loving review from a satisfied customer and the hate mail from someone who really didn’t like something. We’ve all been in both camps.

My hope is that when you get your mortgage from me, you’ll become a fan of what I do and how I do it. That doesn’t mean you need to “like” me on Facebook or fill out a survey. Email a friend, post to their Wall, mention me on Twitter, or just pick up the phone and have them give me a call. Referrals are the best reviews.
